| Want to participate in a tourney? Sign in! InstantChess has several different types of Tournaments. They are: Swiss, Olympic and different team tournaments. Every type of tournament has its own "Upcoming & Sign Up" section. Just enter these sections and sign up. What are the conditions of a tournament? Every tournament has its own conditions such as: Pairing type, Colors, Duration, Chess Type, Clock, Time per Player, Increment, Rated or not, Number of Players, Classes of participants, Countries. All these conditions are written in the title information of every tournament. How to know which new tournaments are available at this moment? There are 2 ways of knowing: explore "My Activity" page where you can see all upcoming new tournaments, or enter the Tournaments section and explore all "Upcoming & Sign Up" sections of the Tournament page. Is it possible to exclude myself from the list of participants? If you click "Yes" when answering the approval question "Are you sure you want to participate?", it is not possible to leave the list of participants of the certain tournament afterwards. So if you are a part of a tournament, remember that you should give every other participant a chance to play a tournament with you. What should I do after I signed in? Wait for the tournament to begin. You can then start seeking opponents and try to play as many games as is possible in the tournament till it is over. How do I know when the tournament starts? The tournament starts only when there are enough people on the list of participants. The minimum number of participants required for a tournament is displayed in the conditions for the tournament. After the minimum number of participants in a tournament is achieved, the countdown starts. Between the time that the countdown stops and the tournament begins, additional players can sign in (till maximum number of participants is reached). The countdown tells you how much time is left for the tournament to start. You can see the countdown figures in Tournaments "Upcoming & Sign Up" or "My Activity" sections. How do I know if the tournament has already started? When a tournament starts it moves from Tournaments "Upcoming & Sign Up" section to "Running" Tournaments section. Just enter the "Running" section and you will see which tournament s have already started. Every type of tournament has its own "Running" section. How do I know when the tournament ends? Every tournament has its duration which is written in its title information. During the tournament you can always check how much time is left for it to finish; the special countdown shows you the figures. How do I know who my opponents are? Every tournament has its list of participants. You can see the FULL list after the "signing-up" process is completed. This process is complete if: 1) the maximum number of participants has been reached, 2) the maximum number of participants has not been reached yet, but the tournament has already started (since the tournament has started, there is no room for new participants). Before the completion of "signing-up" process you can see only PARTIAL list of your opponents. Before the tournament starts, this list is available in the Tournament's "Upcoming & Sign Up" section. Once the tournament has begun, you can see names of all participants in the "Running" section, together with their status (Playing, Viewing or Exploring). How do I know who is online? Your goal is to try to play as many games as possible in a tournament. By clicking on "My Activity", you can see which of your opponents is online. It shows the names of people who are playing or viewing a game when you click on this link. Another way of checking who is available to play is by exploring particular Tournament "Running" section - you can see list of all your partners their together with their status (Playing, Viewing or Exploring). By clicking the link to the game they are playing (or viewing) you move to the game where your opponent is currently situated. You can try to chat with him trying to talk him into playing with you as well as simply propose him a tournament game by clicking "Propose a tourney game" option without any chatting. Where do I find an option "Propose a tourney game"? This option is available in the "Propose" section of the game. When you enter this section, you can choose the name of your opponent from the scroll-list and click "Propose a tourney game". But remember that this option is available ONLY if you and your tourney opponent are present together in the same game application at the same time and neither of you are playing any current game. How to start playing a tourney game? There are 3 ways to do this: to challenge your opponent for a tourney game (proposing a tourney game yourself), to accept HIS tourney challenge (you will see his challenge appear in your chat box) or simply run into him in the regular "seeking opponent" process (the system automatically unites together those players who are involved in a same tourney if they both go "seeking" at one time). Where do I look for the final and current results of a tourney? You can check all the current results of the games played in a tournament during the entire period that the tournament lasts. Every tournament has its special table of current results. If you go to "Tournament" section on the site, find the tournament you are in, and click on the link to this table, you will see all the results of all games played by you in this tournament, as well as all games played by all other participants of the tournament. Wins are colored green, losses - brown, draws are shown as 1/2. If you are interested in the details of any certain game from this tournament, you can click on the result of this concrete game and then view and comment it just as any other game on the site. What is the Tourney Winner Table? This is where you can see a summary of all bonus points you have ever earned after taking some prize places in tournaments, and your current position in the list of all-time tournament winners. How many tournament points will I get if I score in a tournament? In regular individual tournaments, you get 3 bonus points (gold medal) for the 1st place, 2 points (silver) for the 2nd and 1 point (bronze) for the 3d place. In Team Tournaments you score 1 bonus point for the final win of your Team (a Cup). You score this point only if you played at least 1 game in that tournament. If your Team has won but you didn't play a single game - no bonus points for you! All your special bonus points are immediately recorded in the Tournament Winner Table. These bonus points do not affect your rating, but they do affect your position in your League. The more bonus points you score in tournament - the higher you get in your League. |
